1st route
One of the routes, what includes Ledurga dendropark, is “One-day route in Vidzeme”.
Initiator of the route is Ledurga dendropark’s manager.
Approximate length – 95 km.
Required time: 8 – 10 hours + eating.
Route includes:
1. Ramkalni rodel track – the longest Rodel track in Latvia.
2. Birinu castle – castle’s visitation, extensive leisure facilities and the stork nest in the castle tower.
3. Ledurga dendropark – in spring flowering magnolias and many other decorative trees and shrubs.
4. Vejinu underground lakes – lakes beneath the ground.
5. Straupes church – the bell-tower is located separate from the church.
2nd route
Melngaila trail
Ledurga dendropark
Ledurga dendrological park is one of the richest parks in Latvia. In 10 ha are planted over 1,000 different species, subspecies, varieties and forms of trees and shrubs.
The creator and builder of the park Arvids Janitens received award – Order of the Three Stars, in 2003. Currently, individual company of Karolis Treijs is continuing the gardener's work.

For years naturopathy (phytotherapy) has helped to preserve human health, and this knowledge is a part of Latvian ancestral heritage. The main task for nowadays is to ensure its continuity. Green grove – biggest eastern white pine stand in Latvia
Green grove is located near the road Ledurga – Igate and is property of Latvian State Forest’s west-Vidzeme forestry. In green grove 110 years ago are planted: Russian larches, Banks pines, Nikko firs and eastern white pines.
After professor-dendrologist Andris Zvirgzds opinion eastern white pines stand is very valuable and in Latvia’s conditions one of the largest, most numerous and healthier.

Museum of E. Melngailis
In the house, what once was Igates civil parish school, in schoolmaster’s family born Emils Melngailis.
Now in this house can be learned both about that time school, and Melngailis life and work, and working together you could get to know values of Latvians’ traditional culture.
But why schoolmaster sent his son to study to Ledurga elementary school, maybe you could find out if you will go to footpath in the wake of Melngailis...
